Thanksgiving

Since it was just the three of us and Elia doesn't eat turkey yet...we opted to make just a turkey breast. It was such a beautiful day, we spent the better part of it at the park. So we started cooking late and didn't eat until 7 pm! Oh well. It was worth the wait. Even with just a breast, we had way too much leftover. We have tried to be creative with the leftovers...
Friday-mashed potato pancakes with turkey...
Saturday-spiced it up with green chili and tomatoes with rice and beans....
Sunday-Lasagna(store bought form Costco) topped with turkey.
I am officially sick of turkey!

Pullin up!

Elia started pulling up today! She started crawling last week and now she is pulling up on everything! I have not been able to do anything except follow her around and keep her out of mischeif. I hope to post some video of the little rascal later. She is taking a nap now and I am so tired I am about to join her!

Silly Girl

Elia is my amazing good luck charm! I have had amazing luck since she was born. I won a huge package from a chiropractor, which has worked out really well. At a fall festival I entered a contest for a free photo shoot. We won! We did it today. I hope they are better pics than these! HA HA.

History was made!

Rosa SAT
so that Martin could WALK
so that Obama could RUN
so that our children can FLY

This is a truly historic day. I am so proud that Elia was born in this amazing time. Her future is EVEN brighter, I believe.

Election Day

We woke up at 5:30 and got ourselves out the door this morning to go vote! We thought there would be a really long line but it ended up to not be too bad. We waited for maybe an hour or so. Josh was really anxious since we did not actually get our registration in the mail. He thought for sure there was going to be a problem. We were in the system though and it went really smoothly. I know Elia does not understand what i am telling her yet, but I have been telling her how important this day is forever. If you look back in this blog, we attended an Obama rally while I was pregnant. It was so powerful. We are so glad she was with us on this historic day.

This is the school we voted at. This picture is of the back but the front looked exactly the same. THERE ARE NO WINDOWS! I said to Elia, while we were in line that there was no way she was going to a school that has no windows and I could not even believe the plans for this school were approved. Josh said, "Windows are expensive, and you are going to have to start paying more taxes to have schools with windows!"

River Arts Festival

There is an area in downtown Memphis known as South Main. It is a real up and coming arts district. We recently went to an art festival down there. This was a juried show so it was a lot of fine art, jewelry, photography, and sculpture.
We got to ride the trolley!
They did a lot of "artist in motion" demonstrations. That sculpture looked exactly like that girl. I grew up going to art shows and it instilled in me a real appreciation for it. We hope to instill that in Elia too. We found a photographer that we really liked that does collages with photos he takes from different parts of the country. I was drawn to the graphic nature of them and then I realized that I recognized some of the images. That corned beef sign is from one of my mother's favorite sandwich places downtown and the other is the Ferris wheel from Navy Pier. We actually ended up getting a small print that has the Ferris Wheel in it. The bottom pictures is from a gallery that was showing the work from the artist that did the poster for the festival. Josh was pooped!

Murder Mystery

So the friend I have that plans all these terrific play dates, also plans terrific adult play dates! She invited us to a Murder Mystery party. It was soooo much fun. It is set in the 20's in a Chicago nightclub. Everyone is assigned a character and you are given a role and tasks to play. I was Dina Diva a lounge singer trying to make it into Hal Hollywood's (Josh) new "talkie".
Josh was so committed to his part that he shaved his goatee!
These were the other cast of characters! Some of them I have never even met and still don't know their real names!
Everyone did such a good job. One girl never broke character and was flirting with Josh all night...She was great. But my husband, the one who usually is squeamish at the thought of acting in public....was so good he won the "drama queen" award of the night. It was really a great evening. Elia was asleep in the next room for at least three hours and then crashed the party!
(you can click on the collages to see them bigger)

Seven Months Old

I am seven months old! It has been a very busy month. Mom loved to dress me up in all these crazy outfits and take tons of pictures. More than usual. I have discovered many new tricks. I can roll to get wherever I need to go. I can push up really high on my arms and get on my knees. I can spin all the way around on my belly. This is really fun. Sometimes Mom and Dad let me stand up and hold on to the couch. I LOVE to do that. I tried some real food awhile ago and I liked it then but I really don't care for it anymore. I think it's icky. I am growing just fine my doctor told me so Mom should not worry so much. Her milk is just fine for now. That tooth has been bothering me and has finally poked through. I like to suck on EVERYTHING just to see how it feels. I really enjoy my music class where I have learned to clap and tap and shake. Clapping is my favorite. I have a TON of energy and am constantly moving. My mother keeps talking about this swimming thing and how she thinks I will be really good at it. I will try it I think. I love to do new things.
