It's a Boy!

April Fool's
She is definitely a girl.
We welcomed Elia Marie Canfield into the world on April 1st at 5:29 PM. She was due on March 27th so for fear of her getting too big, I was induced. Labor actually went better than I thought it would. I had heard some horror stories! She ended up being 8 pounds 7 ounces and 21 inches. She has long feet and fingers and I think she will be tall. She came out doing a hilarious thing with her mouth and constantly sticking her tongue out. She rarely cried and we are counting our blessings and hoping that it will stay that way. Her eyes were open right away and they are a slate blue for now. That will probably change. Everyone is surprised by her FULL head of hair. We are just in awe of her of course.

Josh is so proud and instantly fell in love with her. He is really a natural with her. I love to see the two of them together.

Overdue

I was due on March 27th. It is now march 30th. Baby Elia is already just like her mother and is late. She is content where she is and no one will rush her. Well if she is also stubborn like her mother and decides she is still not ready by Monday, we will induce labor on Tuesday. April 1st!
Josh and I have a great story for all the major events in our lives. Meeting in the Peace Corps, getting engaged as Katrina was about to hit, Josh falling out of a tree the day before our wedding, getting pregnant in Costa Rica. We were wondering what our labor story would be. Well there may be no "Honey it's time" moment but the fact that for the rest of her life, we can torture her on April Fool's day makes up for it! We wonder how many times we can pretend to forget her birthday before it gets old. Josh can't wait until she is a teenager and present her with a jalopy car. The possibilities are endless. So Elia will be here soon, whether she likes it or not.
Last belly pic.
I am amazed at how many people have asked me if I was having twins. Really, do people think before they open their mouths!!!?
So this is what I have been passing the time with. I found this paper at Target and on my due date decided to make a mobile. This led to many other little projects in our room that has been taken over by baby stuff.

Wedding flowers

A friend of ours in Josh's program got married this weekend. I did her centerpieces and some other flowers. It was a small wedding with only six tables but still a lot of work! Nine months pregnant, I must have been nuts. I really enjoyed it though. I would love to learn more and pursue doing this on a small scale. No huge weddings or events. Just small and simple like this one or doing small arrangements for a farmers market in Memphis.

Leftovers

This is what I did with all the leftovers and some other spring flowers.

Surprise!!!

I thought we were going to have brunch with some friends on Saturday and was surprised with a baby shower! It was so nice. Josh knew the whole time and was so worried I would figure it out and if I was in my right mind (the baby has sucked any intelligence I once had right out of my brain), I would have since there were very obvious clues. But I was oblivious. I even started nesting that morning and went through Elia's stuff to determine what else we needed and told Josh we didn't have enough stuff and we had to go to Target after brunch.

I have developed this weird obsession with frogs. This was a robe with a froggie on it.
Sooooo cute.

King Canfield can't wait to meet his princess Elia.
I am so grateful for all our friends that we have made through Josh's MBA program. The shower was wonderful and meant so much to me and Josh.

Baby Bump and Nursery

32 weeks! Quite a bump, no?

We are starting to put a temporary nursery together in our spare bedroom/office/storage unit. We are not accumulating too much stuff since we will soon be moving to Memphis!!! Josh has excepted a job with Fed Ex and we have to be there by June. So Elia will be a Southern belle in the land of Elvis. Actually I am trying not to do a frilly baby pink nursery.

I bought this bib on Etsy.com (the best website for handmade products!! you have to check it out) and hope to do her room in these colors. We have gotten some clothes and they are piling up in the pack n play my sister so generously gave to us. Josh is going to start the chore of washing it all this weekend. So much work and she is not even here yet?

Two more months to go!

Obama rally

We went to an Obama rally yesterday. It was GREAT! We felt like we were a part of history. He is such a great speaker and even gave a shout out to Peace Corps! He talks about Change and Hope and Josh has begun to call our daughter "the hope of the future".

Almost eight months prego so I had to periodically sit on the floor.
